(17 Aug 2017) DANCERS FLOCK TO BUENOS AIRES FOR ARGENTINE'S TANGO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP The annual pilgrimage to Argentina's much-loved dance the tango continued on Thursday (17 AUG. 2017) in Buenos Aires with the qualifying rounds of the world championships stage category. Now in its 15th year, the 2017 edition of the event is taking place in the Art Factory in the emblematic neighborhood of La Boca, which is often known as the cradle of the sensual dance. 549 couples representing 51 different countries will compete this year, making it a record number of foreign contestants. "We really feel that we danced with all our hearts and (in tango) that is the most important thing", said Martha Caballero, who makes up one of 12 different couples representing Colombia in this years event. While many recognise the sensual dance for its macho manoeuvres, same sex couples are now a regular addition to the competition. Said to have been born in the bordellos of 19th century Buenos Aires, tango was initially performed by pairs of men. The 2017 edition of the world tango festival will culminate with two separate finals, the floor tango category will be decided on Aug. 22 before the finals of the stage tango will bring this years event to an end on Aug. 23. MICROCENTRO (DOWNTOWN BUENOS AIRES): The first root of Buenos Aires remains deeply in the Microcentro area, the Downtown area. From the times of the first and second foundations of the city by the spanish conquerors, in its heart was built the initial fort who then turned into the Casa Rosada (the presidential office). Also, the Cabildo (town hall of the city) and the first churches. On the 19th and 20th century, the city became one of the biggest cities in the globe. The first diagonal avenues were built, taking the example of Haussman in Paris. Also, the new May Avenue who connected the Casa Rosada to the Parliament, physically similar to the Gran Vía of Madrid in Spain. Cutting the Microcentro on two parts, the Corrientes avenue is one of the main places where the people never sleep: epic theatres, neon lights, and art deco & international style skyscrapers. / RETIRO: For Buenos Aires, Retiro would be like Midtown is for New York. More than 100 years ago, this place was constantly being consolidated as the most traditional neighborhood for the high-class residences, among with Recoleta. From the golden ages of the biggest palaces like the Anchorena or the Paz Palace to these days, a labyrinth of streets where some of the most traditional skyscrapers are, like the Sofitel Hotel of the Arroyo St. or the stunning Kavanagh Building, just in front of the San Martín square. And after the World War II, new skyscrapers were also added to the neighborhood, like the Brunetta Tower, and the recently built Bellini Esmeralda. In front of the outstanding skyline of the Libertador Avenue, just in front of the train stations and the 9th of July avenue, is the Villa 31, a slum that paradoxically stays in the most expensive terrains of the country.

SOUNDBITE (English) Sean Brady, Irish Cardinal: "Gradually as we spent last week discussing the needs of the church, the needs of the new evangelisation, the new reaching out, it became clear as a result of that reflection and prayer that he was the man, the best prepared to do that job, because of his own track record as somebody in a position of governance, but also his track record as a life style, a simple life style, he cared for the poor." 18. Wide of Brady being interviewed in garden of College STORYLINE Catholics across the globe continued to react to the appointment of the Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope to lead their church. As they did, one of the cardinals who participated in the conclave that chose the new pope said that it became clear in the week leading up to the vote that Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was the right man for the job. On the streets of Buenos Aires, there was great excitement and pride over his appointment. " I believe that as Latin Americans this brings us a lot of hope that more attention will be paid to us," said Bolivian Catholic Ingrid Guerra. "Thanks be to God that at last we have an Argentine pope," said another woman, Ilda Olmos. In Senegal, as Catholic faithful attended a mass at Dakar's Cathdrale Notre Dame des Victoires, Alexis Vincent Gomez said he hoped Pope Francis would "bring humanity to the church". The son of middle-class Italian immigrants, Bergoglio came close to becoming pope during the last conclave in 2005.

I see many Flat Earth sites trying to understand why the flight paths are curved on a Flat Map. The answer is simple - because a Flat Map is a distortion of the true shape of the Earth which is a Globe. Flight paths plotted accurately on a Globe make perfect sense.
