Mid shot of Cardinal Sean Brady walking into garden of the Pontifical Irish College in Rome 17. SOUNDBITE (English) Sean Brady, Irish Cardinal: "Gradually as we spent last week discussing the needs of the church, the needs of the new evangelisation, the new reaching out, it became clear as a result of that reflection and prayer that he was the man, the best prepared to do that job, because of his own track record as somebody in a position of governance, but also his track record as a life style, a simple life style, he cared for the poor." 18. Wide of Brady being interviewed in garden of College STORYLINE Catholics across the globe continued to react to the appointment of the Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope to lead their church. As they did, one of the cardinals who participated in the conclave that chose the new pope said that it became clear in the week leading up to the vote that Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was the right man for the job. On the streets of Buenos Aires, there was great excitement and pride over his appointment. " I believe that as Latin Americans this brings us a lot of hope that more attention will be paid to us," said Bolivian Catholic Ingrid Guerra. "Thanks be to God that at last we have an Argentine pope," said another woman, Ilda Olmos. In Senegal, as Catholic faithful attended a mass at Dakar's Cathdrale Notre Dame des Victoires, Alexis Vincent Gomez said he hoped Pope Francis would "bring humanity to the church". The son of middle-class Italian immigrants, Bergoglio came close to becoming pope during the last conclave in 2005. MICROCENTRO (DOWNTOWN BUENOS AIRES): The first root of Buenos Aires remains deeply in the Microcentro area, the Downtown area. From the times of the first and second foundations of the city by the spanish conquerors, in its heart was built the initial fort who then turned into the Casa Rosada (the presidential office). Also, the Cabildo (town hall of the city) and the first churches. On the 19th and 20th century, the city became one of the biggest cities in the globe. The first diagonal avenues were built, taking the example of Haussman in Paris. Also, the new May Avenue who connected the Casa Rosada to the Parliament, physically similar to the Gran Vía of Madrid in Spain. Cutting the Microcentro on two parts, the Corrientes avenue is one of the main places where the people never sleep: epic theatres, neon lights, and art deco & international style skyscrapers. / RETIRO: For Buenos Aires, Retiro would be like Midtown is for New York. More than 100 years ago, this place was constantly being consolidated as the most traditional neighborhood for the high-class residences, among with Recoleta. From the golden ages of the biggest palaces like the Anchorena or the Paz Palace to these days, a labyrinth of streets where some of the most traditional skyscrapers are, like the Sofitel Hotel of the Arroyo St. or the stunning Kavanagh Building, just in front of the San Martín square. And after the World War II, new skyscrapers were also added to the neighborhood, like the Brunetta Tower, and the recently built Bellini Esmeralda. In front of the outstanding skyline of the Libertador Avenue, just in front of the train stations and the 9th of July avenue, is the Villa 31, a slum that paradoxically stays in the most expensive terrains of the country.

It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the continent's southeastern coast. The Greater Buenos Aires conurbation, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the third-largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of around fifteen and a half million. The city of Buenos Aires is neither part of Buenos Aires Province nor the Province's capital; rather, it is an autonomous district. In 1880, after decades of political infighting, Buenos Aires was federalized and removed from Buenos Aires Province.[6] The city limits were enlarged to include the towns of Belgrano and Flores; both are now neighborhoods of the city. The 1994 constitutional amendment granted the city autonomy, hence its formal name: Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires). Its citizens first elected a Chief of Government (i.e. Mayor) in 1996; before, the Mayor was directly appointed by the President of the Republic. Buenos Aires is, along with Mexico City and São Paulo, one of the three Latin American cities considered an 'alpha city' by the study GaWC5. Buenos Aires has the third best quality of life of Latin American cities.[8] Buenos Aires' quality of life is ranked 81st in the world, with its per capita income among the three highest in the region. It is the most visited city in South America (ahead of Rio de Janeiro) and the second most visited city across Spanish Latin America (behind Mexico City). It is also one of the most important, largest and most populous of South American capitals, often referred to as the Paris of South America. **Source from Wikipedia**
